When I decided to build my own website, I knew I wanted a CMS that was flexible, secure, fast, and easy to use. After researching different options, I decided to use Statamic, a modern flat-file CMS, instead of the more popular WordPress. In this blog post, I will explain why I made this decision and why I believe Statamic is a better choice for building websites than WordPress.

Flexibility and Customisation

One of the biggest advantages of Statamic over WordPress is its flexibility and customization. Statamic allows you to create and manage content in any format, and you can easily extend its functionality with addons and custom code. In contrast, WordPress can be limited by its plugins and themes, which can be difficult to customize or modify.

When I was building my website, I wanted to have full control over its design and functionality. With Statamic, I was able to create custom templates and layouts using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I could also add new features and functionality using Statamic’s built-in addons or by creating my own custom addons.

Security

Another advantage of Statamic is its strong security features. Statamic uses flat files to store content, which makes it less vulnerable to hacks and attacks than databases used by WordPress. Statamic also has built-in features like two-factor authentication and CSRF protection, which help to keep your website secure.

On the other hand, WordPress is known for its security vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by hackers to gain access to your website. Even with plugins and security measures, WordPress can still be vulnerable to attacks. By using Statamic, I could rest easy knowing that my website was less likely to be compromised by malicious actors.

Speed and Performance

Statamic is a lightweight CMS that loads quickly, which is important for providing a good user experience. In contrast, WordPress can be slow and bloated, especially if you use a lot of plugins or a heavy theme. Slow loading times can frustrate users and lead to a high bounce rate.

When I was building my website, I wanted it to load as quickly as possible, so I chose Statamic. Statamic’s speed and performance are optimized for modern web development, and its flat-file architecture means that pages can be cached and served quickly. As a result, my website loads almost instantly, even on slower connections.

Ease of Use

Statamic has a user-friendly interface that is easy to navigate, even for beginners. In contrast, WordPress can be overwhelming with its many options and settings. While WordPress is widely used and has a large community of users, it can still be difficult to get started with.

When I was learning how to use Statamic, I found the documentation and tutorials to be clear and helpful. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, and I was able to quickly create and manage content without any issues. I appreciate that Statamic is designed to be easy to use, even for those who are new to web development.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe that Statamic is a better choice for building websites than WordPress. Its flexibility, security, speed, and ease of use make it a powerful tool for creating and managing content. While WordPress is a popular choice for many users, I believe that Statamic offers a better alternative for those who want more control over their website’s design and functionality. If you’re considering building your own website, I encourage you to give Statamic a try.
